Ondo Finance unveiled the Ondo Network today, a new execution layer the RWA-tokenization firm says pairs CEX-level speeds with non-custodial, onchain-verifiable settlement.
• The architecture: Instead of handling execution, verification, and settlement on one shared ledger like a typical chain, Ondo Network splits the work three ways: secure hardware enclaves execute trades privately and fast, a decentralized group of attestors confirms the enclaves are running approved code, and settlement lands onchain on Ethereum for now.
• Why the pivot: CEO Ian De Bode told The Block the project supersedes Ondo Chain, the company's earlier blockchain plan. Building out Ondo Perps showed the team that execution speed, not settlement, was the real constraint for high-performance trading, so they scrapped the idea of a traditional full-stack blockchain in favor of this split-layer setup.
• First in line: Ondo Perps, the firm's 24/7 perpetual futures venue for tokenized stocks and commodities, is the network's debut app. Ondo frames the infrastructure as general-purpose, with spot markets, lending, and structured products floated as future use cases.
• Pressing ahead: Notably, this news lands just days after Ondo's broker-dealer arm, Oasis Pro Markets, won SEC and FINRA clearance to offer tokenized equities to U.S. investors, a sign the company is pushing hard on multiple fronts at once.
