Trump has long known that BitCoin is a scam. He said so on TV. Scams have worked the same way for hundeds of years. You pretend something is valuable. Sell it. Then disappear with the money.
The scams come with little extra stories that make them sound better to the victims. Bitcoin has miners who use massive amounts of electtricity to discover a unique number that can be placed in a list. Apparently, discovering such unique numbers is no longer a guarantee of wealth.

The Trump organization had been mining for Bitcoins. Then for some reason they stopped mining. The supposed miners took a beating in the “markets.” The younger Trump grabbed the money
