Resident says crypto scam cost him $3 million: Highland Heights Police Blotter

A resident reported being scammed out over $3 million April 9 after he had a series of conversations over text messages with an unknown person that wanted him to invest in cryptocurrency.

The man, 71, said that for the past year, he had wired the person money, and he set up an account for him, but he realized he had been scammed when he no longer had access to the account.

The incident is under investigation with the FBI also being involved.

A caller said April 7 that they saw two people having sex in a car in the Home Depot parking lot, closer to the roadway.

Officers checked and saw a couple cars that looked like the described vehicle, but they were not occupied.

A caller said April 8 that traffic has become extremely unsafe during pick-up and drop-off times at Millridge Elementary School.

She said that she saw a crossing guard nearly get struck by a car and that cars were driving recklessly due to construction in the area.

All officers were advised to keep close watch of the area during the specified times of the school days.

Kohl’s loss prevention reported April 9 that a known shoplifter had just left the store.

He believed she had placed four Sephora items in her purse and staged other items throughout the store to possibly return to steal.

Responding officers found the suspect’s vehicle in the area and stopped it.

The Elyria woman, 29, complained of chest pains and was taken to a hospital but cited for driving under suspension and theft.

A woman said April 9 that her husband is moving out and she did not want any issues because she was experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.

Although she did not report any immediate issues, officers had to respond to her home less than an hour later, around 12:30 a.m., after her husband reported that she had locked him out of the house.

The woman had wanted him to leave but he did not have a driver’s license, so he was subsequently picked up by a friend.

A woman said April 12 that her soon to be ex-husband violated a protection order by sending her text messages from his co-worker’s phone to request belongings from their home.

Officers confirmed that the man, 46, had violated the protection order and arrested him the next day in Mayfield Heights.

Kohl’s loss prevention made a late theft report April 12 in which they identified one of the suspects due to her involvement in another theft.

Detectives were able to identify the second suspect.

Warrants were issued for the arrest of the two Akron women, 27 and 30, for stealing an estimated $1,000 worth of beauty products.

A caller reported a possible domestic at a home in the 900-block April 13 in which she said that she saw a female getting pulled into a house.

Officers went to the home and learned that a mother and her son had been arguing because she got a call from her son’s school about him possibly stealing a cell phone.

The caller had seen the son trying to leave the home and the mother pulling him back inside of it.
